Description:
Identification Notes:
Annual conk produced in fall and persisting into winter. Fruitbody may be either a semicircular bracket or a top-shaped, stemmed, terrestrial conk. Terrestrial fruitbodies are growing from roots. Cap is shades of brown and velvety. Pores are small, round, light-colored, and refracting. Taste is lemon, and a blackish reaction to KOH. Similar to Phaeolus schweinitzii which has greenish, larger, more irregular pores.
